I want cheap but decent suitcases / luggage

Hi all,

I am going away twice between now and the end of the year, and i'm hoping there are some decent deals on those nice hard suitcases, although i've got no major preference as to what they look like.

If you know of any offers please post!

Have you tried TK Maxx?
Our local store has a good range of luggage by well known name such as Samsonite as well as other designer ranges. They are all much cheaper than buying in a usual Dept. store and some times you can get clearance items that are marked down in price.
A tip is that if you see one style marked down, ask a member of staff to check others as they do reductions daily and some items may well have been missed.

I never had hard cases till last year when I decided to spend the cash and get a good (fairly expensive) matching set.

I proudly took off on holiday last spring with the smaller case and came home at the end of the holiday with a battered case, missing a wheel, courtesy of the airline.

The exact same thing happened this year when DH and I went away and returned with the larger case sporting a hole and a split down the entire length, again caused by the airline.

I successfully claimed for both cases, but that's not the point - the aggravation was enormous and I have since found out that holiday insurance doesn't seem to cover luggage damaged by the airline .

So, I have gone back to soft-sided bags in the hope that they will be able to withstand being dropped from the hold to the ground (which is what they must have done to cause such severe damage).
