E-readers

Can anyone recommend an e-reader. I have looked at the basic Kindle for £59.99, but I'm not sure if it would be better to spend the extra £40 for the next model up? Are there any other makes on the market that would be cheaper but offer the same specification?

The Paperwhite - every time. I have tried several ereaders, and none has matched up. It's lightweight, can read it in the dark and in bright sunlight. I've tried several models of Kindle - even the more expensive, later models, (plus other makes) and this is one that I would replace with exactly the same if anything happened to it.

Thank you for your reply. I am primarily looking for one that can be used in low light (evenings) or sunlight (holidays) - sounds like it is worth spending the extra £40.

Whichever Kindle you go for, and I would also suggest it’s worth spending the extra, sign up to Bookbub. It’s free, and you get a daily email of discounted and free books on Amazon.

If you have a tablet, or a large screen phone, then the Kindle app is free...

In our house, we have iPads, Android phones and tablets and an old Amazon Kindle Fire. Oddly, the Kindle is the only one that's not (yet) used for reading books...

You cannot read in sunlight on any of these devices, this is where the Kindle, a dedicated e-Reader, comes into its own. Tablets are heavy, the Kindle is light to hold whilst reading, and even the largest phone is not suitable for reading for any length of time.

That depends on the device... though e-ink like the paperwhite does do better in that regard for less money, and has better battery life.

I've never felt the need for an actual Kindle to read on, but then I'm not inclined to sit in the sun to read, I'd rather find a nice bit of shade...
