when you're asked to register with a job agency, what do they ask/require from you?

does anybody know what agencies ask or want when you go there to register with them? i have applied for a job, but never used an agency before and they've asked me to go register with them. what does this involve?

Probably some or all of the following:
    • Filling in and signing some sort of application/enrolment form containing personal details, along with details of the bank account into which you want to be paid
    • Copy of P45 from your previous employer
    • Proof of identity and proof of address
    • Proof of eligibility to work in the UK

I would have asked because you could be sat waiting to a meeting involving being tested totally depending on job role which you don't mention. I agree normally the meeting is by in large is to get some ID out of you.

I thought an 'initial' 15 minute offered interview pencilled in by a direct employer this week was bad. Least we kind of know the journey may not be worth it. :o
  • Ask them. I've been before where they just filled out a profile of experience and check your contact details then make a note of what you are looking for and check ID. Unless its regarding a specific job I'd not bother again as I never heard from them since. Its more to help them have a database so if they need to fill something quickly they have a list of people. I've also experienced fake jobs. They advertise something just to get your details but it doesn't actually exist.

Why not just go and register.

hey thanks for this. i am going to register with a different agency now anyway as that one who ask me to register, i've been told from few people it's a poor agency. i am applying for warehouse roles.

just general warehouse to be honest, but the problem is i have ID and bank details, but i don't have p45 or payslips because was living and working with my older brother at the time, so wasn't getting paid for the work. would this be an issue? would they look at it more as volunteer work?

    No, a P45 isn't necessary.
