  • hi, my first post here, but thought it was worth making something clear based on what i know:

The snowball technique/method would mean taking the £220 'spare' you have each month and paying it off of one debt of your choice - normally either the most expensive or the one that is easiest to clear. So if you have a loan that costs you £150 a month you pay it off of that loan (or save it until you can pay the loan off completely). Once you've paid off the loan you then have £370 a month to pay off of your debts and so on, in effect your debt repaying 'snowball' continues to grow.

That's based on my interpretation of what you said earlier, which is that you are currently paying off £980 a month and have £220 'spare' over your living expenses.

In theory, although you have a lot of debt, there is no need to panic as you can afford to make your repayments based on that.....or did you not tell the CCCS people the real amount you need to spend in a month?

The people asking for an SOA are asking to see if they can help you choose anything in particular to pay off first or help with, so it may help you out to do it anyway....in my eyes it can't hurt, there's no shame in posting it.

first and foremost, don't panic! There's a solution to every problem, i promise.
a few lucky breaks, adaptation of the snowball and selling a car... debt freedom!

I hope it is untrue, this is making me suicidal with worry now - I am petrified, literally.

I seriously now am confused. My DLA is due for renewal in a few months, and I really need it as my electric costs me £90 per month as we have no central heating and have to use electric heaters for me to keep warm.

I have to use heat patches each day for pain which cost a fortune, and my dietary needs are such that I have to eat and not miss a meal otherwise I am throwing up everywhere (partly to do with all the medication I am on)

Gosh I am really worried I feel like ending it all

I have to spend 90 per cent of my life in bed, and if my DLA was taken from me I would be cold and in more pain and there seriously would be no point in living anymore.

The pain is similar to stage 3 cancer when in a flare, and I would be in a permanent flare with no heating :(

Im sure that there are grants that you can apply for to get things like central heating fitted etc. There may be some info on the site, can anyone help??? I will do a search & see if I can find the info....I would be sure, that someone with such a severe disability though, should be able to get some help, re central heating.

i cant believe you would loose your DLA, but i dont understand what happens with bankruptcy so i couldnt say for sure, i just dont see why they would stop it.

what are the heat patches you use, can you get them on perscription? if your not sure you can pm me if you dont want to post it and i can find out if you can get any on the nhs.

i know its a frightening time facing your debts and i think we all think about ending it at some level. you need to start a new day tomorrow and try to speak to a different advisor and get correct info, also there will be loads more people logged on in the day to help.

    Hi Lunar,

    Thankyou for helping me :o

I use the full back heat patches by thermacare (the ones that go around your back and fasten at the front and last 8 hours).

I also use curaheat patches for other parts. In winter, I need to use at least one thermacare a day - preferably two and they cost £5 for two.

So it costs between £20 and £35 per week, however I have lately been managing without any but been in incredible pain and basically miserable because of it.

I will ask our pharmacist when im in work if there are any of these heat patches available on prescription, or if there is a cheaper way to buy them. im in work friday so i will find out and let you know. you need to prioratise your spending and make cutbacks as we all do when we have got into debt but you cant let your health suffer in this way. nobody should be in pain if there is a way to prevent it. thats the first thing i was taught anyway.

  • Hi again.
I have read on another site, that you are only in 20k worth of debt, but on here you are saying that you are in 35k of debt.

That was before we added the debts up and first had our LB moment - we estimated 20k but we were far wrong. If you care to read the post, it says "roughly in 20k of debt" I am sure there are others who had a rough estimate in their head and then were shocked at the true total.

The debts were then added up on the CCCS website recently. Is that a problem to you?

Are you following me around the net?
