There is a little red light in the rev counter between the 1 and the 2 what is this doing when he turns the key? It should flash 3 times then stay off it it stays on or continues flashing he has a problem with the key not being read.

There isn't a rev counter on it?

All the lights should come on on the dash when the ignition is turned on then once the engine is started they should all go out except the handbrake one until he takes the handbrake off.

The one more light coming on we need to know about.

When all the keys are taken out and its turned off there will be a flashing LED on the dash. That is the one that people were asking about as it is the immobiliser. It could be the immobiliser isn't reading the key as valid so won't start the vehicle. That could be because of a faulty keyfob or a faulty transponder ring on the ignition barrel.

The LED can show the fault code. Leave the key turned on for a minute and it will flash a fault code via the LED.

It will come in the form of 2 sets of flashes e.g flash..flash..pause..flash..flash..flash.. repeated

    That would be code 23

  • Right, as per esmerobbo comment, I found a red led on the top middle of the dash, by the digital clock that seemed to flash at different speeds depending on success or not. Looks like there is a symbol of a lock beside it, but can't be sure.

If it flashes normal speed when the key is put in and turned, it will start ok every time.

If it flashes fast when the key is put in, it won't turn over at all. Am guessing 1 of the keys that causes it to flash fast isn't programmed?

Still can't work out why early this morning all 3 keys didn't work?

    Any ideas people?

Right, an update. he semes to think theres some kind of start process you have to do every time, turn the ignition on, then off 8 times in 6 seconds, then press the keyfob to start it?

All mine have a rev counter but it looks like you found the light anyway.

Are all the 3 keys on the same bunch? One of mine wont start if there is another key anywhere near the steering column. Even the spare key for the same van.
  • First thing I would do is charge the battery. Often there can be enough to light up the dash, but not to turn over the starter motor

He's a nightmare, bless him. Love him to bits but he drives me nuts at the same time.

Not on the same bunch but the other spares were on the passenger seat?

We played around with it a little longer and can confirm that 2 keys work with it, another fits the lock and turns but nothing and another he had given to him when he bought it isn't even for the van! :o

So you've got two working keys now? Excellent. Change the batteries, stick one in a drawer as a back up.
