Transit won't start

My elderly dads transit won't start, it's a 2003 model but only done 80k miles, he went out to it this morning, turned the ignition on and all the usual dash lights came on, but it didn't turn over, it didn't even try to?

Any ideas please, before he calls a mobile guy out?

    Battery dead or immobiliser fault.

Immobiliser light flashing rapidly? Or does it come on then go off?

Right, an update. he semes to think theres some kind of start process you have to do every time, turn the ignition on, then off 8 times in 6 seconds, then press the keyfob to start it? Ive never driven a Transit so does this sound right?

EDIT: Just spoken to him again, he is 75 bless him, and that is to reprogram the keyfob so ignore that.
Whn the key is in position II, all dash lights are on. Turn the key to start, they all stay on and 1 more light comes on, he thinks the battery light? But it doesnt even turn over, or attempt to?

    No thats not right.

Basically turn the key till the lights/dashboard come on, wait for the glowplug light to go out then turn the key to start.

Sorry my previous post was about programming, i editted it to say ignore that part. Yes he knows how to start it, just trying to determine if all the lights bein on is normal or not? And what could cause it to not even attempt to turn over?

Well surely he knows whether the lights are on or not when starting? Or has he only just bought it?

There is a little red light in the rev counter between the 1 and the 2 what is this doing when he turns the key? It should flash 3 times then stay off it it stays on or continues flashing he has a problem with the key not being read.
