Steamed Syrup Sponge with suet ?

Now the cold evenings are upon us I am starting to crave stodgy puddings
I have never ever before found a recipe that is as good as my old school steamed syrup sponge but it must have had suet in it because dumplings always stir up memories of it
Does anyone have any really scrummy recipes I could try please ?

I've got a really good one in Rose Elliott's Vegan Feasts. It's dead easy to make and doesn't have the heaviness of one with suet in, but satisfies that craving for a steamed pud. I'll post it tomorrow.0

Right, here's the recipe for Rose Elliott's steamed syrup pudding.
Grease a 1 1/2 pt pudding bowl and put 2 tbs syrup into the bottom.
4oz margarine/butter
4oz syrup
4oz plain flour
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
5 fl oz milk
Cream the margarine and syrup together until light and fluffy. Sieve in the flour and mix well. Dissolve the bicarb into the milk and stir quickly into the pudding mix. Cover with greaseproof and foil and steam gently for 1 1/2 hours. Serve with extra syrup and custard.
This makes you think you are eating a lovely stodgy pudding, but without that stodgy "can't move" feeling afterwards. It's really delicious.0 -
that sounds lovely but does anyone have a microwave version of this?I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0

3oz suet
water to mix
Put 2 tablespoons of syrup in a (lightly greased) pyrex bowl
pop the suet mix on the top
Cover with cling film
4 minutes in the microwave
1 minutes standing time
Remove cling film
