I was wondering if anyone has an opinion of BT Mobile here in the North ?

My contract with Vodaphone will be ending within the month and as I have BT broadband, also coming to an end, there might be a deal available. A friend was telling me that coverage could be a bit ify in places. I live in the armagh area

  • I can't comment on the coverage in Armagh but if you search online for "BT Mobile coverage checker", you can see what their coverage is like in your area.

I've been a BT mobile customer for around 2 years and I can't fault them. Coverage has always been excellent anywhere I've ever gone and they have 4G virtually everywhere. Also nice to get the discount when you're also a BT broadband customer.

The only negative point I would make about them is that they don't seem to have any facility to allow you to buy a new handset and pay it off over a couple of years. You either have to buy a handset outright or already have a handset when you transfer to BT

I'm with BT Mobile, having moved from o2 around 4 months ago.

The service has been great and the price is great (£16 for unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, 20GB data and £100 Amazon voucher) but the coverage i find to be fairly poor. I'm in Co. Armagh too.

I will move from them to another provider after the years up because of the weak coverage TBH.

Dont rely on the BT coverage checker BTW - i've plugged in our postcode and allegedly i can get "very good" 4G, 3G and 2G but the reality is i can bearly get a signal at all from our house.
  • I'm with BT mobile...they use EE network. I find them great and got better deal than any other network.

Where do you live and work?

Like you, i've no issue with the deal and service, i'm just not that impressed with coverage in Co. Armagh. I work in Manchester during the week and its great over here.

Yes the deal seems pretty good but at the end of the day it is coverage that matters.

As an individual I prefer to buy my own hand sets, even if I have to borrow the money from my local Credit Union it works out cheaper. With the £1000 handset now on the marketing I feel there'll be a hell of a lot of people holding onto their current handsets.

From what I've read so far BT don't seem a good bet, still I might be able to user deal as a bargaining chip 😄

  • Hi I'm County Down. I don't have any problems coverage wise. Was on EE before I changed and get unlimited txt 4GB and 1000 mins for £9. My son also gets this deal (discount if you have more than one in the family). EE couldn't even match that even tho I had been with them for at least 14years....got no thanks for loyalty.

Similar with me - i was with o2 for 17 years and their renewal deals were naff, so i went to BT Mobile.

o2 were like "oh you should have phoned our retentions line" - well no - (a) you couldnt match BT anyway and (b) its up to YOU to make sure i dont leave, not bleat on at me when i do
  • EE told me "to go and look somewhere else cos you'd never get a better deal than here" when I said I was going to shop around!! The last laugh on me eh?
