  • Why do customers/clients assume you have a gigantic float to cover their late payments ? I don't suppose even one of them actually thinks you might be struggling with such basic needs as food.

I make to-do lists as well, but then find 6 things I haven't even thought of rush in and take precedence over all of them !!

It's the same with replacements and repairs - you think it might be nice to get a new back door as the old one lets in mice, wind and leaves (!), and before you even start looking at doors, eg the fridge breaks down. I just think you have to assume life is always like that. I told DD1, when she & hubby bought their first house, that there would ALWAYS be an unexpected something every year, some years more than one, and the sooner they got planning for these, the happier they would be.

It is stressful when customers pay late. Life often does seem to kick you when you're down.
Another one here who has used parcel monkey. Definitely worth it over 2kg. Under that I find the post office is cheaper.

    Thanks Toomuchdebt.

  • I've heard from DS3 :). I was starting to get anxious :o.

Am@zon have said they won't deliver DH's main birthday presents today, despite us paying for next day delivery :(. Hopefully they'll arrive tomorrow, and we should have part of the delivery charge refunded.

DH had to ring the doctor first thing this morning to sort out his tablets. He's been without one of his blood pressure tablets for seven days now due to our surgery not getting their act together :(. When he had his mini stroke the hospital doctor said DH should double up on one of his blood pressure medications. Despite the hospital writing a letter to thus effect to DH's doctor, DH is never prescribed enough and so he runs out :(.

When he ran out this time he ordered them from B00ts using their repeat prescription service. After three working days (which is how long it takes) B00ts said they hadn't got them and it must be the doctor who said no. DH rang the doctor yesterday and they were closed all afternoon for staff training! So he rang this morning and the receptionist said she'll sort it out for this afternoon. Meanwhile DH is at risk of another stroke and extra stress for us :(.

  • I slept well last night because I was so tired and do feel a bit better this morning. DH did a lot of work for the late paying client yesterday and then reminded them about the invoice, so fingers crossed.

Hopefully the post office will be more reliable than Am@zon and DS3 will get his box of cheaper presents delivered today.

I'm going to do my weekly food shop with my stepdad this morning and I need to keep it at £60 or less as that is all I have. Tough decisions will be made.

That's terrible, HH:mad:. I hope DH gets his medication very soon. Nothing worse than worry and anxiety for people with blood pressure and heart problems. He's had enough stress from recent life events and the late-payers and can do without any extra. Sending hugs to all.

I can really empathise with this, HH. Your mention of 'tough decisions' really hit home with me.

When I was really skint, my debts were at their highest and all my credit cards and overdraft was maxed out, I was literally having to buy essentials with whatever loose change I could find. I sometimes did a car boot or table top sale knowing whatever I made would have to be spent on essentials on the way home at the supermarket as I only had a few pennies in my purse before the sale. If I had a bad morning with few sales I was feeling absolutely desperate. Many a time I've had to weigh up the importance to me on that day of a loaf of value bread, some sort of veg for our dinner or a small bottle of milk. It was often either/or. I was forever having to tot up the cost of what few things were in my basket (couldn't afford a trolleyful in those days) and putting items back on the shelves before getting to the checkout. I cringe with embarrassment at how it was for about 2 years.

Things are so much better now:j. I still need to be frugal and I've never in my life been a food-waster but I can afford to actually sometimes buy what we might like rather than just the barest selection of what we couldn't possibly manage without.
