I'm really looking forward to spending more time touring and exploring the UK when I am retired. I'm done with getting on planes and I hate airports and airline travel. It's not like it was in the early 80s when I first started travelling. Planes were frequently half empty, especially if you sat in the smoking section......0

I have completed an OU Maths degree. Keeps one mentally active and away from day time TV especially during the winter without the hassles of travel, office politics, people management, time management etc etc. Now starting on an MSc.
Also spend a few months per year on our canal narrowboat. Lots of fresh air and exercise during the spring, summer and autumn.0 -

I'm lucky enough to have;
A) Mates living in some very attractive areas of the UK, (North Yorks, Devon, Witlshire, Mid wales, etc.)A cottage in a rural area off far West Penwith, Cornwall.

"Fancy doing a house swap for a cheap holiday?"[/QUOTE]
Unfortuantely I don't live in a tourist area and I also live in a cheap area, so to move would take a chunk out of the retirement fund.
However, IF I'm better off thatn I think I am when I finally leave, one of my thoughts was to buy in the centre of Chester and do house swaps for holidays. It has worked well for a mate of mine.0 -

We plan to live a frugal, simple life when we are retired.
While I can understand some of you who want to live this way, I personally feel I will want to carry on as I am doing and not cutting back on food, wine and travel. They are important to me now, so dont think they will get less important.0 -

We too plan to live frugally and simply.
Our food and wine will be mainly home grown, fished for, foraged, and brewed, (inc beers and ciders.) These will give us more interest, enjoyment, and involvement in what we eat.
The nice thing is that by doing these things we will also be able to put aside money for occasional fine dining and towards trips out in our campervan.“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and who weren't so lazy.”0 -

Could you fancy a house swap for a cottage in north Durham? Close to Barnard Castle and some lovely walks - it's the new place to be if this thread's anything to go by I have borrowed from my future self

Sounds neat!“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and who weren't so lazy.”0
