Dental implants

I have suffered from a nickel allergy all my life (self-diagnosed). I can't wear certain jewellery, watches etc as they give me a red, lumpy, itchy rash.

My understanding is that the implants are made from titanium alloy grade 4. I'm now basically just wondering if my allergy might cause a problem if I get the implants.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I wouldn't have thought so, but this would be thoroughly investigated before any were placed by anywhere even half decent.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

    Thanks for your reply.

When I first attended the dental surgery for an initial appointment, x-rays etc I was given a medical form to fill out. I mentioned on that form that I had a nickel allergy.

I rang the surgery some weeks later and spoke only with the receptionist as the dentist was otherwise engaged. I asked whether my nickel allergy would be a problem. She said she would speak with the dentist and came back to me later and said no, the dentist had said the implants are 'anti-allergenic'. (I think that was the word used).

The clinic has an excellent reputation and maybe I'm just being over-cautious.

Right. I’m sure you’ll be fine then.
