If you are unwilling to evidence the source of the deposit. Leave the funds where they are. With time the source will become less relevant.

Lenders don't trawl through credit card history.

If you are concerned. Obtain a copy of your credit history and speak to a mortgage broker in person.

My solicitor wanted three months of statements showing either: a) the deposit sitting there, or b) the deposit being built up.

The lender didn't want any documents (other than work contract) as I already had a long standing good relationship with them.
  • I was surprised to hear that if the funds are seen to be in the account for 3 months on average this is seen as fine. I've read many threads about money needing to be tracked and sources of deposits needing to be proved etc

I was asked where my deposit came from and I stated it was a bonus from my employer. They were happy it was and that was that.

I even thought the solicitor would somehow check if tax was paid on the bonus for legal reasons as it was paid in one lump, but it seems thats not what they're there for.
  • My solicitor asked for three months of all my bank accounts, including credit cards.

Might be an idea to ease off the gambling about 6 months before starting the mortgage process. Don't want to give any ammo for a rejection.
