Omega 3 which ones?

Options
I want to start taking Omega 3 fish oils and I've got in a muddle.
I have done quite a bit of research but I've ended up confusing myself.

I'm looking for a reputable brand of omega 3 with
significant EPA and DHA
triglycerides
and made from sustainable small fish
with good purity.

Any suggestions please?

  • Instead of going for artificial sources, why don't you try natural sources like Walnuts is a good source of Omega 3. Develop a habit of eating wallnuts as the everyday snack.

The pain specialist I see swears by increasing the amount of omega 3 in diets of people with chronic pain. When I told him that I take supplements of O3 he just laughed.

According to him, and the research I've since read you get far more O3 by eating the foods which contain them.

For instance, 3 portions of good quality tinned mackerel per week provides twice the dose of a week's worth of supplements. It's to do with how the body absorbs the O3 and its easier to do so with the actual food rather than capsules. Us it works out cheaper.

I now have 3 or 4 portions of mackerel and brown rice a week. I cheat with the rice by buying the microwave stuff and use half a pack per portion in a tub with a tin of mackerel which you can get with various added sauces to improve/change the taste.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I too believe that the best way forward is through diet. However looking at research it is suggested that adults should aim for between 3500mg and 4000mg of omega 3 each week. That's quite a lot of tinned fish for a family of 4

I was hoping to find a supplement that I could give my teenage sons.

maybe I need to start looking a food, such as home made fish cakes and....... what else is there?

I suppose some is better than non
