    Hi mandy_moo,

Another user used (clean) baked bean cans as tins. Have a look at this thread:

  • Last year i bought off ebay for about 75p a little cake tin molded into the shape of of a candy cane, or you can buy little kids sets that have miniature cake tins perfect for this sort of thing

I was reading about xmas cakes somewhere on msn the other day and read about someone who used small baked bean tins. I thought it was genius! There was a recipie and photos too. I'll let you know if i can find it!

I used empty washed out tuna tins last year, lined with baking parchment in exactly the same way as I do my normal tin. As I only needed to do one I used my usual mix and just nicked a few spoons out for the little tin, then cooked at the same temperature but for a lot less time (couldn't say exactly how long but just tested it with a skewer). If I was doing more I would still stick with a full size recipe and just split it across probably 8 tins, just seeing how many it filled.

Sorry I can't be more specific but I tend to cook by eye as much as by the book, and only really came on to suggest tuna tins as they are a bit wider than bean tins!

the tins you get microwave sponge puds in! (ends cut off and washed, obviously). supermarkets do 'basics' cheap ones.

Hi, I once made some in small, about 6 inch high I think, terracotta plant pots...
I lined the pots with baking parchment and then baked the cakes in them. Afterwards, I removed the cakes and painted the pots, then re-wrapped the cakes - you could use baking parchment, muslin, or just plain cling film. ...Put the cakes back into the pots and then wrapped the whole thing in cellophane and tied with ribbon!!
The cakes themselves I topped with nuts and dried fruits before baking, as the lady I made them for wasn't keen on icing!
