Do I owe my ex husband equity from our house?

Hi - asking on behalf of a friend.
She separated from her husband approx 10 years ago, at the time he asked for money based on value of the house which she did. He has not paid the mortgage for the past ten years and they have since divorced. She is now trying to take his name off the mortgage but he has refused and now says he's owed His share of the profits (equity). My friend is on a low income and can not afford a solicitor - so just needing some advice on whether or not he is entitled to anything.

Hi Woodyr01 and welcome to MSE,
Unfortunately, in a situation like this, your friend will need legal advice. She can look for cheap or free legal advice from places like law centres (www.lawcentres.org.uk). I would imagine the situation would depend on what was agreed during the divorce settlement and what paperwork she has to verify the agreement they made when money was given to him before. But, realistically, she isn't going to be able to re-mortgage in her sole name until this is resolved. Best of luck,
Laura
