Zero hours work and housing benefit.

Friend has just started a job, zero hours but week one is 9-5 every day, also stated to be a temp job as well so he has no idea what will happen and is worried he may get a few hours one week and none another, or full time for first month then a few hours per week thus not entitled.

How would it work?

You hand in pay slips to the benefits team in the council and they'll calculate how much rent you need to pay. You also need to make a claim for hb if you haven't already done so.

If he's on universal credit he needs to report earnings to the dwp.

Thats what I thought, he currently gets JSA which of course will be stopped and has a current hb claim which he would have to report change of circumstances.

The issue I foresee though is if he gets a month of full time hours the council will assess him as zero award, or a week or two of full time then next to none for another 2 weeks it will screw up the assessment but I also wanted to know how long they want payslips for, or if its good for him to bring in monthly or show his contract that states zero hours etc.
