New to the site, newly-divorced, determined to get out of debt. Have just bought my first flat (after marital home) and need every spare penny both to bust the debt and to stay ahead of all my payments.
In order to help, I am selling various wedding presents which I now deem to be surplus to requirements  , and my engagement ring. And anything else I think anyone will buy on eBay
I used to work in publishing and have a lot of unread books in excellent condition. I have approached a second-hand bookseller I know and he said to send him a list of stuff. Anyone got any suggestions, apart from Ebay or amazon? Ideally I'd prefer to get rid of the lot in one haul as I don't really have the time to sell them all separately.
I'll also be renting out the second room in my flat once I get moved in and get it decorated. (just stripped all the walls!) And just got the council tax to agree to exempt me from paying until I move in, as there's no cooking facilities or furniture. I am also doing freelance work in the evenings when I can for some extra cash.
Looking forward to getting back on track. Have already found that I am getting more comfortable saying 'no thanks' to things I can't afford....

Well Done and Welcome!
It sounds like you are making a really good start. Try not to expect to much for your ring, I only got about £50 for mine (about a 1/4 of the bought value) Have a read of the thread by MSE Andrea as it will tell you all about SOA's and everything else you need to know.
Good to have you aboard!Current debt - £16,300

Watch out for Lucy, she's a strange one. Has an obsession with fruit.0 -
Nothing wrong with fruit!
Oh and good luck with the second hand book shop. I've managed to get rid of loads through Amazon and Car boots, but if yours are new, this is probably the best way.Current debt - £16,300

Thanks all. I've been offered a reasonable amount for the ring (roughly the same as the new kitchen so I figure that's a good trade!)
What is SOA? I am intrigued...!0 -

Sounds like a very nice ring..... I obviously got cheated there to!!!
An SOA is a Satement of Affairs (a list on incomings and outgoings) it helps us make sure your getting the cheapest things out there!Current debt - £16,300

I shopped around for the kitchen!

Actually, pending how the fitting goes, I hope I will be able to recommend the people I'm using as it's been very reasonable. They are normally trade but also do some residential stuff now. I also bought all my appliances from Boots so that I could get the Boots Advantage Card points! :T0 -
Well done, I've done all my Boots christmas shopping for the year, so I am saving my points to treat myself in the sale in January. Have you joined site like Pigsback and Quidco?Current debt - £16,300
