Employee forgot to renew company van insurance !

    I was thinking that on the way home sue. None of my drivers have ever asked to see a copy of the fleet insurance. I very much doubt out of Eddie Stobarts thousands of drivers, one of them has ever asked either.

    It would be sensible for your business to also check the driving licences of employees driving their own cars for work.

    For both instances (Company van and own vehicles) it is best practice to check licences on a "regular" bases eg once a year

    In haulage most check every 6 months, though even that doesn't entirely work.

    Ref the M1 accident about a month ago, the driver of the first truck had been reported as having his license revoked two months earlier. If his employer checked them every 6 months, then unless they were lucky, they would not know for some time potentially that he shouldn't be driving.

    I much prefer paper counterparts, another layer of work to do now.

    The six months check is sufficient to satisfy the H&S laws which require checking at "Reasonable" intervals. If the M1 drivers employer had checked his licence at reasonable intervals they are unlikely to have an problems (Providing they have checkable records).

    Had they not been checking then the Directors and more likely the fleet manager could potentially be in serious trouble
