Summer Holiday In Poland

Hi
We am thinking ahead to next years summer holiday and my wife and I are considering a holiday in Poland. We will fly with Easyjet when their summer schedule comes out. Can anyone advise of a decent, reasonably priced, hotel in Krakov city centre in which we could make our base. We will want to tour the salt mines and Auschwitz concentration camp. Is it better to book the tours before we go or wait until we are there? Can anyone recommend a good tour company for these tours?
We were thinking of perhaps spending 4 days in Krakov and then maybe taking the train to Prague or Hungary or somewhere else not too far away in the region for a few days. Can anyone suggest a suitable holiday destination close by for a few days.
Thanks

I've stayed in the Antique Apartments previously and would highly recommend them. You can book them through Booking.com or directly at http://www.antiqueapartments.com/.
They do have several apartments located throughout the city. The ones in Plac Szczepański are the most central and closest to the main tourist areas.
They can also arrange tours to Auschwitz etc. for you0 -

I'd someone ask me this by email, so heres the info i sent them back, disguard any thats not relevant!- Auschwitz. Its worth seeing, but likewise it’s a day of a holiday used up. Very worthwhile though.
- Salt Mines. Brilliant. Really great. Underground something like ½ a KM. Amazing what they did down there – active church, loads of sculptures, etc.
- Rynek Underground permanent exhibition – its under the main square. Amazing.
- The Old Town main square itself – we base ourselves in the old town and usually around that during the day. The bars and restaurants have big canopies, heater lamps and blankets so it would still be good to sit out and watch the world go by!
- Wawel Castle. Amazing. Huge. Well worth seeing
- Krakow Cloth Hall – in the centre of the old town square. Great little market.
- Jewish Quarter – historic and very nice
- Schindlers Factory / Museum – historic and worth going to
- Theres little golf cart tours around everywhere and they’re probably worth doing too.
We stayed in the Aparthotel Stare Miasto. Very central to the old town main square, sells out quickly, not too expensive. They do a fantastic breakfast. A good breakfast was quite hard to find. I would recommend you stay in or around the old town if you can.
Use trip advisor or Expedia and look for the best price / feedback combo!
Restaurants :-- The Black Duck – excellent restaurant, great food, great duck dishes!
- Piano Rouge – book a table in the live music area. They do live music every night from 21:00. The restaurant is underground. Excellent food.
- Moo Moo Steak and Burger Club – great steaks and burgers. Not too expensive.
- Milk Bar Tomasza – fantastic breakfasts, cheap, a bit studenty but hugely popular. Its one of those shared table things and its just a cafe but i really liked it and its highly rated.
- Movida Cocktail Bar – great cocktails, great food.
- Ed Red Steakhouse – expensive, but maybe the best steaks in Krakow
- Wodka Bar – a little bar that does nothing but Vodkas.
Theres loads of bars around the old town square – a lot have full blown sit in restaurants downstairs and underground so worth having a check around.
Taxi down from the Airport is 89 Zloty fixed price, which is around £20. We use them just out of handiness.
UBER operate out there and are cheap for taxis. Their cars vary from top end mercs to beat out old clios with students driving them but they’re cheap!
I would be inclined to check out the above restaurants and others on trip advisor and plan out your evening meals. There are some really lovely restaurants so you may as well plan for them rather than just hope to hit lucky. We also booked the restaurants in advance - most have english websites or you can ring them when you get there. We tended to just eat light during the day (and drank a lot!)
We booked our Auschwitz trip and Saltmines trip via the taxi driver - very good but there may be cheaper / better avail
Easyjet early summer schedule - April 2018 to June 2018 comes online on Wednesday.0 -

Bratislava is slightly closer than Hungary and you can go see Vienna for a day from there as well (it's about an hour in bus or train). If you'd rather have the travel here than there you can fly Ryanair back to Dublin from Bratislava airport (a lot cheaper than Aer Lingus from Vienna by the way)0 -
The trams are a great, cheap way to get around. We stayed in the Qubus hotel which had amazing breakfasts and was right beside the Schindler factory within the Jewish Ghetto area with a tram stop very close by. If you've not read Schindlers list it would be helpful to do so before you go as it helps to make sense of the area.
Take time to look around a it's an amazing city. If i visited in the summer I'd really want to visit the Zakopane mountains.0 -
I know you asked about hotels but I stayed in the Globtroter Guest House and it was a great place to stay and near the town square. You can check it out in tripadvisor.0
