Trainline Confusion

Trainline advised me, as my local station Redruth doesn't have a self service ticket machine, to print off the confirmation email and then when my Wife arrives at her change of train, Reading, to obtain the ticket there. .
Personally, I would make VERY sure your wife has that advice in writing to show the ticket inspector - there have been several threads on here in the past of people having to purchase full fare tickets on the train and/or face a fine because they can only prduce the confirmation e-mail and not the ticket.
Think about it the way a ticket inspector would - Redruth to Reading is a long journey, and your wife could print off multiple copies of the booking confirmation for several people who then effectively get free travel to Reading.0 -
... just to add - Reading station does (or used to when I was last there) have ticket barriers in place to exit the station platforms, so your wife may struggle to get to the concourse in able to collect the tickets from a ticket machine.
It may be out of your way, but if you can travel to pick up the tickets before her journey it would probably make the journey considerably less stressful.0 -

As I more or less said in my first post the 30 mile round trip to my nearest station with a self service ticket machine seems to be my best option as I have no intention of creating unnecessary problems for my Wife. I do have the chat conversation saved so getting a print out won't be a problem but I'm pretty sure my Wife would prefer the actual ticket.0 -
.............. As for the booking fee, Crosscountry wanted £240 return for the same journey that Trainline are charging £120 for so a booking fee of less than £2 doesn't cause me a problem.
I find this extremely doubtful. did you get screen shots of these 2 prices. Are you sure you were comparing like with like.0 -
There was no facility for printing the ticket when I booked it. Trainline advised me, as my local station Redruth doesn't have a self service ticket machine, to print off the confirmation email and then when my Wife arrives at her change of train, Reading, to obtain the ticket there. Doesn't help as one train is GWR and the other Crosscountry. Redruth does have a ticket office. your tickets can be printed there at any time when the ticket office is open. they don't have to be printed by using a ticket machine. If your wife boards the train at Redruth when the ticket office is open the email confirmation will almost certainly not be accepted by the person checking tickets on the train.0 -

I know Redruth has a ticket office but Trainline state that you can only get the tickets from a ticket machine and not from the ticket office. As Redruth is GWR could this be the reason ?0 -
Don't know about Redruth, but I've definitely seen people obtain their pre-bought tickets by taking the code to a ticket office who then printed it.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0

"ONLY get tickets from a ticket machine". Trainline are a ticket agency, it makes no difference to them whether the journey takes place on a GWR train or CrossCountry train or any other train operating company.
There should be an eight character booking reference code that you would use to get the tickets.
Go to the ticket office with your email confirmation and ask the person there to print your ticket using the 8 character code. You will need the credit or debit card that you used to purchase the ticket and will probably be asked to put it into the card reader device and enter your PIN. This is just an ID check, no charge will be made against the card.0
