This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone,
I seem to be the first up.
I had a phone call from my nephew just after 1.00am this morning. He was in the town and there was a long queue for a taxi so he wanted to know if he could come and sleep on my sofa as I only live 10 minutes from the town centre. That I didn’t mind at all, it was being woken up in the early hours of this morning that I objected to. Needless to say he is very apologetic right this minute. At least he wasn’t drunk which is a good thing. He has got to phone my brother in a minute to ask him to come and get him. He is a good lad though and I would rather he did this than get into any danger.
When he has been collected I want to get on with the housework, and get all of the little jobs out of the way before I go out to see a friend this afternoon. We are going for afternoon tea at a local hotel to celebrate her birthday. I haven’t been there before but the reviews are good, so I’m looking forward to it. It will be nice to have a good catch up and natter.
I had better go and get organised, I need some tea and something for breakfast.
Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.0 -
Morning everyone and thanks for the start Holly.
It's a real pea souper here this morning, have been out with the little dog but my old lady hardly opened her eyes let alone come for a walk!
I didn't sleep too well last night so apart from popping over to check on Lulu I can't see me doing too much today, some time to recharge batteries would be good.
We had goats and pesto tarts for supper last night and there is half the puff pastry block left so think I will make chicken and mushroom pies for lunch, other than that my only plan is a sofa snooze, perfick
Have a good Sunday folks x0 -
Morning one and all. I am back with you after our break in N Devon. We actually had some good spells of sunshine in among the showers so we were able to get out and about and stay dry!. We stayed in Lynton and went down to Lynmouth on the cliff railway, had half a day in Barnstaple, half a day in Ilfracombe and a day on the West Somerset Steam railway, with some time in Minehead. The railway is a credit to the volunteers - the stations and gardens along the line are beautiful.
We did far too much eating of course and now I am wishing I had shown some restraint! I feel like Bessie Bunter and sensible eating is called for - again!
The wifi in the hotel was very hit and miss (mostly miss!) so I must catch up on all the news when I have a few minutes. Suffice to say I hope all is well with you all.
I got 3 wash loads washed and dried yesterday (now waiting to be ironed) and a food shop done. Nothing sinful went in my trolley honest!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad or worried who want them. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning everyone.
Thanks for the thread HH.
After my long mid-afternoon sleep I still slept all through the night and feel much more refreshed and relaxed. DM was good yesterday so I feel OK leaving her. The fridge is full of food, plenty of milk and bread etc. She's decided to not attempt to go out until I'm back next week which reassures me. Her car battery is flat again so she's also decided to leave it until the garage collects it for the next service / MOT later this month.
I'll have another wee while in bed surfing before I get going, I'm just listening to Saturday Live and want to finish it. I need to head up home as there's so much to do before work on Tuesday and Wednesday. There'll be washing to do and some shopping to get.
Happy Sunday to all.0 -
Morning All
Dry and bright here, hope to get the washing dried outside now I have a new line and prop!
I have 10 for sunday dinner today so just off out to do some shopping. We'll have the green beans I picked from the allotment yesterday with whatever I buy.
Glad your DM is so much better Gers, it should be a lovely drive home for you.
Sounds like you had a good holiday TA, you needed it.
Have a good Sunday, take care. XX0 -
Hollyharvey - My 18 year old DD came in at 4am this morning then texted me from her bedroom to tell me not to wake her this morning!!
I couldn't get back to sleep afterwards.
The hoover will definitely be going on this morning!
Lazy morning as don't need to go down to sit with my dad this morning as my mam isn't going to church. Going down for Sunday lunch later though so that will be nice. Then alittle bit tidying in the garden unless it rains.
Have a nice day everyone0 -
I'm glad you had a good break TA, you needed it. Gers, Have a lovely drive home, it sounds as if yur mum is very sensible (apart from eating ood food of course).
On the subject of which, do anyone else's children ring them and ask if various foodstuffs they have in their fridges will stlll be ok to eat? Mine do,as if I have second sight, but usually it's just a matter of common sense and telling them to use their eyes and nose. I did advise DD not to eat the 5 day old veggie kedgeree she had in the fridge though, I think that's a bit too long to keep rice.
I'm feeling a bit better today although I'm sleeping for England. I don't think the antibiotics I've been given are as effective as others I've had. The nurse sent a sample away, so hopefully they will let me know if they need to change them.
It's very overcast here but I hope the rain holds off because I want DH to do a bit of a garden tidy, I'm not holding my breath though, by the time he gets back from the gym and showered etc it will probably be pouring.0 -
Snoozer - yes my eldest DD 21 often rings or texts to ask if she should eat something . She's in Leeds now but did this when she was living in Amsterdam too which always amused me.
She also tells me about every ailment, sore bit or spot she has, as if I can fix things miraculously from a distance!
Now she's back in England, shes getting very good at yellow sticker shopping and freezing things as she lives opposite a Sainsburys and close to a Morrisons. Shes always ringing to tell me about her bargains.0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread Holly and hugs to all those in need.
Chilly here this morning and the stove is lit, I'm batch cooking today, I'm making piri piri chicken and a casserole whilst I'm cooking a Sunday roast.
It will be a challenge as I have a very small cooker and hardly any work surface. But needs must if I'm to economise on the food bill.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning all
Very misty here first thing but its brightening up now good job as I have a big towel load from yesterday to hang out and I've stripped the beds and got them in the wm.
Yesterday OH got all the logs into the shed which should see us through the winter, the amount of spiders he disturbed was amazing, and he was bitten by something which obviously did not want its nest disturbed
Going to have a quick tidy round this morning and hang the washing, we are taking Evie out later on for a walk, they are asking local people to go to a photo shoot protesting against a bypass that they want to build through stunning and ancient woodland in the village where I grew up, which is the next village along from ours, so we will go to that and then on for a walk. I suspect Evie will make us stop off for a drink on the way back too !
Right time to get on, have good days all xx0
