Make what you want ... and buy a 30p jar of cheapo jam for those who curl their lip up at it.
  • I made cranberry and apple jam last year it was lovely. I used value apples and tesco had bags of frozen cranberries in from around october, had some left over to make fresh cranberry sauce at xmas too

I was just thinking cranberry and apple sounds a christmas flavour and wondering it it's actually a thing, and was about to google and then saw the last reply.

The only time I've made jam, was at school in the early 80s and it was plum. It's not a common flavour nowadays, but unless the recipients actively dislike plums, my thoughts are that they say they dislike the idea of it rather than they wouldn't touch it if receiving some.

I looked today at Tesco, and they do do a plum jam for 75p, so if you were thinking of making it for household members then I'd be tempted to buy a jar, and let them try some and see if they really do dislike it. If they find they're pleasantly surprised, make your own.
  • Christmas pudding jam. Make plum jam with an infusion of pudding spices in a muslin bag whilst boiling and some raisins/currants/sliced peel in it, maybe even some slivered almonds for the marzipan element?

Don't tell them it's made from plums. They won't realise.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.
