Epson will take the cartridges back and will e mail a label to print - you don't get any money but at least the can deal with them see http://content.epson-europe.com/environment/collectandrecycle/en/

Another option which can save a lot of plastic waste and money, but perhaps only suitable for people who print a lot, is to buy a continuous ink system.
