Essential fatty acids, in general are good - cod liver oil is the one many people go for.

Apparently Glucosamine is good, as well - so have a look into that

Fish oils are relatively inexpensive, and have some supporting evidence. It also will give you a shiny coat (if you are a dog). ;-) I take it for its other benefits and haven't seen any noticeable effects on my joint health.

Glucosamine/chondroitin is more expensive. I took it for quite a long time but really didn't notice any benefit.

One thing to always remember is that the research evidence, even when it is "statistically significant" (bleuch) doesn't mean the effect is substantial, and of course it is an overall/average effect. Just like anything, there is a lot of individual variability - so, try it and if it doesn't work for you, stop wasting your money. Nothing works for everyone.

As others have said, use good technique and avoid overtraining.

If you are looking for bodybuilding machines then you can choose treadmills. Treadmills are good for exercises help in joint maintenance in time of workout. But when you use treadmills please follow instructor's guidelines.

I would suggest a treadmill would only be good for building muscle if you lift it over your head!

Bear in mind that when you start lifting you can pack on quite a lot of muscle and increase your strength quite quickly, your supportive tissues (ligaments and tendons) take longer to strengthen and respond differently to stimulus. Do your research and consider a week every couple of months of lighter weights and high reps to help injury proof yourself.
