Governor work whilst being off sick

Hi,

I have been signed off from work for two weeks with depression/anxiety. During this time I am due to attend school governor meetings in my role as a parent governor. I didn't think this would be an issue but a family member questioned if I should go as I am not well enough to go work but ok to go school meetings. I must stress the main reason I am off is linked to work so I want to keep busy and take my mind off it and not go mad by sitting at home on my own.

Has anyone else had experience like this, would you recommend going or not? Could work contact the school to see if I have gone?

If there is any possibility that the sg meetings could cause you anxiety or depression then clearly you should not go.

Thanks for the reply.

To be honest it isn't the school which is causing me any issues, if anything has helped take mind off work. I meant more from the point of could work say 'if well enough to go there then well enough to come work'

It wouldn't look good ultimately but there probably is little the employer could do about it as presumably it is out of work hours.

There are two meetings coming up which are day time which they give me time off for. In one way I think looks bad but then think need to keep busy and school work isn't the factor which making me bad.

If work are aware of your problems (with them) they would probably welcome an excuse to get rid of you.

You should have got your Dr. to sign you of only your normal work but allow this other job to continue.

In the paid work you do is there anything which matches what you do by attending a school governors' meeting?

Does the school publish the minutes of governors' meetings - say on their website? If not, I don't see that the school should tell someone phoning up whether or not a particular governor had attended a meeting.

Have you received the papers for the meeting? Instead of attending are you able to make a written submission via the chair or clerk?

No, it is differnt type of work. Also they don't publish the minutes. I have received the papers but the first one is a DTI meeting so really need to be there in person.

As you are only a parent governor, there's no need for you to be there at all.

Your depression/anxiety appears to be 'selective'.
