Age UK planning your future workshop

Options
I am booked (through work) on a Planning for your Future 1 day workshop next week. The agenda is Health & wellbeing, Legal issues, Options for employment, Financial and tax etc. This is being delivered by Age UK. Might be a bit late for me; planning to retire Spring 2018 (but hey, probably learn something, and it will be interesting to meet others at the same stage of planning). Just wondered if others had attended similar workshops and what their views were about how useful it was to them.

I went to a 3 day event in April (Retire next year) it was useful- looked at retired finances, occupying your day meaningfully, ensuring social interactions, volunteering opportunities and ways of planning and what you need to do pre-retirement.

  • Thanks CRV; 3 days, wow sounds in-depth, I think my day might be the light touch version. Did you have any 1:1 sessions? Not included in the agenda I have been sent.
  • My workplace send people on 2 day courses. I went on one earlier this year and I thought it was useful as there is nearly always something that you've forgotten in your retirement planning.

    Hi Dorian 1958

We had one to one with our work Pensions Officer who went through with each of us our personal projected pension forecast and how (if possible) we could maximise our contribution also choices about increasing lump sum by giving up income.

We had a couple hours presentation by an IFA on planning personal finances and making sensible choices to not run out of money in retirement and following this an opportunity/ offer to have an initial one to one with him or a member o his firm away from the venue at a later date to look at our own personal circumstances, but no pressure or expectation that we had to do this in fact he did advise if we had an IFA we already worked with and were happy with the service we had had we could discuss our needs with that one.

  • Thanks James and crv. An IFA presentation is part of the agenda so let's see what he says and what he offers by way of follow up.
