O/S Daily Sunday 3 September 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy and dull here this morning, but dry.
DH and I are enjoying first peaceful cuppas of the day,
Dinner last night was pizza and pasta. Today we're having a bbq with family at mum and dad's. I made a cheesecake to take, and there will be a choice of that, fresh fruit platter or trifle (MIL is contributing this). My fridge is packed with meat and the electric coolbox has all the salad and fresh fruit in it. We'll be heading to mum and dad's at 10 am'ish.
Yesterday got another job done in the garden, so now we've got all the jobs at home that got neglected whilst we were away with the caravan so many weekends done.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks for the kick-off NMLC. Not a bad forecast for us today but not promising to be quite as good as yesterday when summer was back again. We managed between us to get the front hedge trimmed back - it was like Karno's army but we got there in the end! Then we got the garden chairs out and collapsed round the back in the sun!
No fixed plans for today, what will be will be. Some ironing may get done, or maybe it won't. Still not resumed doing roasts on a Sunday so today I have chicken fillets defrosting to do Smothered Chicken at lunchtime. With salad and baby potatoes. Ginger sponge and custard for afters for Mr TA and I shall have mixed berries and a big dollop of Greek yoghurt in my mission to be eating sensibly!
Have a good day folks and (HUGS) for the poorlies, sad and worried who want theem. Belated birthday greetings for dp1 - your trip sounded wonderful. I love Zizzi and their Penne de la Casa, with their Arancini for starters. Oh yum, I get the same every time we eat there! Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone and thanks for the start nmlc.
Belated Birthday wishes for DP1
Dry and bright here but a real feel of Autumn in the air, I wore a gilet to walk Tilly and wished that I had put a jacket on.
Not loads planned for today, last day of Burghley Horse Trials on the tele so might indulge, will make a change from all the cricket and football that DOH indulges in
I picked up a piece of brisket yesterday and that's already in the slow cooker so will be ready for this evening, other than preparing that I really can't see me doing anything too taxing, perfick.
Have a good day folks x0 -
Morning everyone,
Thanks for starting us off nmlc.
It really feels like autumn has arrived here now. I’m noticing the nip in the air in the mornings now, and even in the afternoon sun it has been a little chilly at times. I’m at the stage of needing a jumper in the evenings and yesterday even needed a throw over me when sitting watching television.
I was really pleased with the Chicken Provencal that I made for dinner yesterday and will add that to my meals to do in the slow cooker over the cooler months. I’ve defrosted some lamb mince and will make moussaka for dinner tonight.
There is a load in the wm at the moment and I’m hoping that it will dry on the line. The forecast isn’t that good though, so if it doesn’t it will just have to come in on the airer.
I gave the bathroom a really good clean yesterday and I’ll have a quick vacuum through today and apart from a tidy through that will be enough for today.
I’m still struggling to get used to my hair disaster. It wasn’t helped by my brother calling in yesterday evening on his way home from an emergency job in the area and immediately coming out with “what have you done to your hair, it’s so short, you want to grow that back, it makes you look so much older”. Cue me promptly bursting into tears. He didn’t know what to do then and couldn’t stop apologising enough. My brother has never been known for his tact. I will just have to get used to it though and wait for it to grow. I think even an inch will make all the difference and have decided to console myself with the thought that the two months that should take will soon pass.
Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.0 -
Good Morning everyone,
Holley /H it will soon grow honey and before you know it you will be happy with how it looks .The one good thing about hair is its always changing by its growth.
Got my food shop yesterday and was happy that I spent around £15 odd a bit more than expected ,but I replaced my big box of UHT milk that was getting low, and that came to just under a fiver ,but lasts me for ages.
No more shopping for at least another 10 days now as the freezer is going to be my 'shop of choice '
more than enough for me to use up in there
Nice day outside with just a slight crispness about it that says autumn is on its way.
This morning as usual I shall do my menu for the week and finish off my ironing while I listen to the Archers on the wireless.probably do a cake for DGS Jack as his said rather wistfully 'any chance of a victoria sponge' ?
:):)
Late afternoon I go to DDs for sunday dinner, holidays are done, and life gets back to normal again. Boys are back to school tomorrow and daily routine kicks in once more.
DGS Ben is off to Tokyo tomorrow with his g/f for a week, bit worrying ,but I'm sure he will be fine
right time for a coffee and some breakfast I think
Have a good day chums whatever you are doing

Morning All
Dry for now but heavy rain due later. Glad I got all the washing up to date yesterday, even the mattress protector was washed and dried, all back on the bed last night and I slept really well.
Walked to the library yesterday, then a trip to the veggie garden. I pulled all the beetroot and onions, going to make chutney today. Also helped to riddle some topsoil so the second bed is all ready to be planted with some winter veggies.
Cycled with some friends to the food festival at Lomond Shores, really busy but good fun and met quite a few people for a chat. Had something Greek to eat but wasn't that impressed.
Not a lot planned today, the hoover didn't get its outing yesterday so will do that today!
Belated birthday greetings to dp1, your trip sounds amazing, glad you enjoyed it.
Happy Sunday, take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
I need to put the washing machine on but will do it once CHS is awake as the water pump is near the bedroom.
CHS's brother visited yesterday along with our nephew who is getting married in December, we will book a hotel room so we can attend.
We went to a work colleague's 60th birthday party yesterday evening, we didn't stay long as CHS had been drinking with his brother and was getting wobbly, wobbly and jetty walking don't mix!
Back to work tomorrow and it's a 5am start, argh.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning :hello:
I do love free clothes
I had a £100 M&S giftcard so I ordered 6 black pairs of leggings. There's £43 left but I can't find anything else I like so I'll hang on to it for a while. I'll probably end up with more leggings or lots of knickers

I'm halfway through my blanket and I've run out of yarn  I'm sure I have some more greys somewhere but I can't find them. I'll order more then might save it for when I'm on holiday at the end of the month.
I have an escapee chicken. She was missing yesterday so we knocked on the neighbours' doors but no-one had seen her. Also hung over the back fence to speak to them and she wasn't there either. So we went to the woman round the corner – her garden backs onto the side of the garden over the back of us – and she hadn't seen her today BUT said she seen her every day for about a week, pottering about in the garden that backs onto ours! They had no idea so she must sneak over while they're out at work. She liked to watch her out of the window and assumed she lived there, lol. I waited til it got dark and hoped she'd gone to bed with the others, and she had. I have no idea where she'd been for the last four hours. I took her off her perch and clipped her right wing, that should stop her flying up onto the fence

I can now pick up Scampi's dishes from the floor, though I'm having trouble putting them back down again. I can't believe my biggest goal in life at the moment is to put a bowl of water on the floor without spilling it :rotfl:

Morning all
Raining here atm and set in for most of the day I think, any washing can wait till tomorrow there is nothing urgent.
Got loads done in the garden yesterday, we cut back the two wisteria at the front door, they had got out of control and were heading to the roof and clogging the guttering, we then mowed and strimmed and I sorted out the arum lily's and tidied them out, we also out the new house number up which looks really nice.
We then took Evie for a lovely long walk and she did her usual of dragging us into the pub as we passed
Not sure what today will bring but it wont be outside due to the rain, so a pottering day sounds good, I am back to work tomorrow
I have really enjoyed my two weeks off and don't want to go, but hey ho needs must and all that.
Pork chops for dinner with garlic roasties and some veg, then Victoria on the TV tonight.
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all
Back from holidays last Friday after a horrendous journey back from south Devon. We had a lovely break though and I got to see Agatha Christie's house near Dartmouth. We spent three days in Babbacombe which is lovely then moved on to four nights in a Woodland Lodge at Finlake. It was beautifully equipped with a sauna and hot tub. Not far from the South Devon railway so we went there for DH.
Lost yesterday in washing and shopping. We also did some shopping for DD who had left a few items off her on line shop. DGS pleased to see us so had lovely smiles and cuddles.
Wet there this morning haven''t done much. DH is uploading videos and I sat drinking coffee and chatting to him. Back to normal this week. We are looking after DGS for part of three days when DD is working. He doesn't start nursery again until the middle of the month, doing two and a half days. so we will inly have him on Tuesdays and holidays this school year.
Well have a good day folks and hugs and spoons to all who need them.

Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.
No sun today, but we have some wind, I stripped the bed, its on the line, hope it dries, otherwise its on the airer in the sewing room.
Had a disaster yesterday with my sewing machine, it has started skipping stitches, after messing about with it for about an hour, its going for a service, which means I have 2 boxes to get down from the attic........ not looking forward to that......might have to ring DD1 and see if she can come over and get them down for me. The heating engineers put them up when the heating was finished.
Chicken with apricots and brandy for supper tonight, green beans roast spuds and carrots. No idea whats for dessert.0
