Help! Food shop budget

Options
Hi :)
I've been in a really lucky position for a long time, with a husband and both of us earning good wages.
I'm now divorced and back in a place where I need to budget.
I've got 2 boys who live with me most of the time.
How do I figure out what an acceptable level of spend on food and groceries is?
I've done a budget overall and got some rough indicators based on my spends over the last few months, but I was wondering whether there's an average or a percentage that I can aim for...
Any tips gratefully received :)
thanks
Happy Chick

Have a look on the Old Style Board at the September grocery challenge. It's hard to suggest a figure for your family as everyone's needs and tastes are different but if you work out how much you usually spend and try reducing that for the month, then next month you will have a better idea of a budget :)

  • Good luck in finding your food budget. My family of 4 which has a DD of 10 and Ds is 5 mum and dad. Our usual monthly budget for food, toiletries, cleaning stuff and some alcohol and stuff for lunches etc is usually £280-£300 per month. I could probably reduce this a bit if we didn't buy alcohol and snacks etc for school. This works for us and hope you can what works for you.
