Two jobs only want the one

Ok please bare with me on this one I've had near enough no sleep worrying about this.

Basically, i have been out of work for months I've applied for roles not heard anything back for months I've attended interviews and been knocked back so started applying for any role to pay my bills while awaiting a good offer.

Had an interview last week for a job I'd like and was told I'd hear back in the next few days, Yesterday I attended an interview with an agency for a role I'd have stopped in till I found better.

It wasn't really an interview I was just put in a room to fill out forms and watched a very fast paced induction video while they photo copied my documents and filled out the office part of the "contract".The man told me I'd start Monday etc so off I went home! 30 minutes later I get a call saying I have the job I wanted and that I start Monday for training:o

Went back to the agency to inform them I've changed my mind with me wanting to rip up the "contract", I was informed that it was fine he'd just put me down as finding another job and because I've already filled out all the documents if I didn't like the job i could just go back to them.

Is my anxiety getting better than me or am I fine as i never started the role?

  • Can't see the problem if the agency said it was fine.

Go enjoy the job you really wanted. :)

That sounds like a great result to me. Congratulations!

Don't sweat the small stuff and enjoy the new job. The agency will be used to this happening, it goes with the nature of the work. If anything it's great you've got them as a fall back by the sounds of it.

Obviously without seeing the contract it's hard to say, but it's quite possible that in your first month of employment then no notice is due anyway.

    Similarly if it's zero hours.

If you had to give a week's notice and didn't then in theory they could initiate proceedings for the extra costs that were incurred because of you not giving the required notice, but this is very rare, and in your case the manager accepted it. So as far as I can tell you're golden.

That's worrying without having anything in writing but i'd presume it would cost them more than they'd gain
  • tbh after reading i cant see the issue, but good luck
