dobbiesloan said:.Personally I hope all Branson's companies go burst. He rips off the NHS gets grants for his airlines, ends broadband discounts during lockdown and doesn't pay a penny in taxes in this country. I only enter to get every penny I can out of them.
1) The NHS Trust did not follow lawful procedure in tendering a contract. The commissioner refused to engage with Virgin. This is why they were sued (and lost!). If the Trust had behaved in an appropriate and lawful manner, they would've won the judgement and we wouldn't be talking about it. More information here (and possibly elsewhere if needed) - https://virgincare.co.uk/blog/why-its-wrong-to-say-we-sued-the-nhs-because-we-lost-a-contract-in-surrey/
2) He didn't get any grants for the airlines, he (and a consortium) injected the cash https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-53406604 . In fact, technically, no airlines got a grant (it was a soft loan). Virgin weren't even eligible for it, but Wizz - a Hungarian company that didn't even need the money to survive the current crisis, did get it - more info here: https://www.headforpoints.com/2020/04/28/wizz-air-gets-a-300-million-uk-government-bailout/ (a very interesting read to be honest)!
3) Not aware of this issue. I doubt he gets asked to make decisions like that though
4) Indeed. He's up there with Gary Barlow, Vince Cable, Jimmy Carr and David Beckham. Wasn't Geldoff also involved in a tax dodge scheme at some point too.... all rich people basically (again, that doesn't make it right of course)
I'm not a Virgin sympathiser by any means (he's just cancelled one of my flights and I know it will be months before I get my money back!), but I feel facts are very important when presenting information on the internet for others to read (and form judgements on), hence the links provided
Of course, no offence intended, and I wont' take this thread any more off-topic and appreciate all the work you do making this thread what it is8 -
