Help - 35k in debt

For the moment you can meet the payments and most of it is at 0% so I would continue trying to get the debt down as far as possible until your husbands income drops and hope he gets a job quickly. I would not go straight on to a DMP as I am not sure this is irredeemable yet.
Tackling the American express and the Tesco credit card first is the best way forward as the Tesco one is low and there is a chance you could get offered a 0% deal after that is cleared which you could then transfer the rest of the Amex to. The rest of the soa looks ok.
Remove the temptation to spend by removing credit cards from wallets and purse so you can only spend in cash or if cheaper online only after researching and taking from bank account rather than credit card.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. It would probably help if I went and worked out how long I had left on the interest free periods wouldn't it.

No we don't have sky, we pay for Netflix and have freeview. We also pay a student rate for Spotify which is £4.99 a month and we both use that. Saves money as opposed to iTunes
We can't downgrade our internet package to find a better deal either and are stuck with Virgin due to the location of electrical sockets versus phone sockets (opposite sides of the room).0 -
Forgive me for skimming through your whole post, I'll take to read it properly but regarding the teaching, please tell your husband that not all schools are the same. As a teacher, doing 7 weeks work experience is pretty full on if not sure whether to do it. A 2 week placement would be better. I'm not sure how old your husband is but I didn't get into teaching until in my 30s. Does he know what children he'd be interested in teaching? Lower/Upper Primary? Secondary?
I'll be honest, I'm only a teacher because I was made redundant at another job (in a totally different sector). It was the best thing that happened to me. I love being with my children and they love being with me.
I'll post more later.Savings as of April 2023 Savings account - £26460.50(14474.88)Current account - £2140.24(4576.79)Total - £28600.74(19051.67) £1010 (£65pm CS/BS) £250 CS/BS/JS0 -

I tend to ramble so you're forgiven
He wanted to teach children around the age of 7 or 8. But really I think the only reason he was interested is because someone suggested it. After work experience he saw how much work outside of the classroom teachers have to do, he's very much the person to work during set hours and leave it at work, whereas I bring work home all the time. I don't think teaching is for him but definitely would want to work with children in a different setting. He is open to ideas but doesn't actively seek out those ideas, he often looks to me to guide him and I can't tell him what career path to follow. We're both 28, he's done so well over the past three years, did a maths and science GCSE, took an access course at college and then should come out with a 2:1 at University. But that's as far as I can push him!0 -
I'm a little surprised that he hadn't heard that teaching is quite time consuming.
What does he suggest? About anything?0 -
I can't really think of anything else that hasn't already been suggested apart from could you sell some of the things you bought yourself, eg the ipad / mac to recoup something back to throw at your debts ?#39 - Save £12k in 20250
