Anyone here in Northern Ireland been successful in opening an M&S account?

Options
I have successfully switched to every account offering a bonus but M&S. They have been the only bank to reject me and my wife. I then heard from a friend that he too was rejected.

I've started to wonder if perhaps they simply don't want Northern Irish customers? Has anyone been successful in getting an account with them?

  • Looked into this recently but ultimately couldn't be bothered with all the faff of switching.

Not sure it's a Northern Ireland issue (they have a branch in Lisburn I think). There were widespread reports last year of them cherry-picking their clients

Have you asked them? (even though they are not obliged to divulge their reasons).

No faff for me, I was with them for just over a year, took at least £120 in vouchers off them, then moved on to the TSB offer. Yes, I'm in NI. You would need to be comfortable with online banking, and I only ever see a cheque once in a blue moon. They also have those little password calculators you have to have with you when you log in. Otherwise, I had a good year.
  • Yes, I have had an account with them as well, albeit now moved on elsewhere. Still have their credit card though.

Yes I have a current account with them. I use it as a second account. My salary doesn't get paid into I just transfer an amount into it every month for food/petrol.
  • I'm with M&S too, all online but that's how I like it.

I got an offer of £120 on a gift card and if you put in £1000 each month they credit it for 1 year with £10 per month
  • Wife with them just over a year, no issues..

I'm with them too, opened the account for the cash reward and free vouchers! I don't use it now that the reward has ended :D
