It's not cheap, is it? And it's quite a lot to get through each week. Try your college/uni library! Most subscribe, so set aside a lunchbreak or free period to read through it each week.
Or make friends with someone with a subscription - they will have access to the NS website and archive, online.
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.

I bought it for my son recently. I went through Quidco and Magazine Group (so earned £4.80 cashback) and New Scientist was on 12 issues for £12.

My dentist has it. I always used to turn up early for appointments so I could have a good read.
Have you tried asking on freecycle?
Do they have the same articles on the website?

If you are a student you should have an Athens password which will allow you to read it online.

Edited to say : If you don't have an athens password ask your librarian how to get one. Not only will you be able to access New Scientist but lots of other journals that you might need/want for your course.

Freecycle is a yahoo group, there are ones for most major areas in the country. It is like ebay but without money;)

Why not just go to the library and read it for free?

I second the above. Most unis will have it on ATHENS so you can read it on your PC at home

In the 8th of September issue, there is an offer for £1.47per issue(cover price £2.95) you can subscribe online at www.newscientist.com/3059 or call 08456 731 731 quoting 3059

    Hope this helps!

If for some reason you DO have to buy it, why not get the best deal you can and then share the cost with someone on your course? Thats what we did at school - there were about 4 of us sharing it round!!
