excellent deal this, especially with the 50£ off
shame that the voucher seems to have expired or I can't find an equivalent ... however ...
If you go to laptops direct, you can get a slightly better deal
from them (I've no idea who they are)

theirs shows at £327 after cashback and 2% quidco, but ... they have a free upgrade on the ram to 1 gig

seems like a very good deal, as is this one ...

Yep, now the Empire Direct voucher's expired Laptops direct looks like a great bet, especially with the 1 gig upgrade! That should be adequate to survive with Vista, certainly good enough for anyone planning to reformat and install XP! (I haven't decided yet...)

As far as I remember the upgrade was noted in the specs, looks like it's disappeared now unfortunately.

Incidentally mine arrived yesterday and is great with 2gig RAM for under £350!

  • Mine was from Empire Direct using the method in my first post. I bought the RAM separately for £35 for 2Gb. Shame the 2 offers that made this deal better value than practically every other laptop in this price bracket aren't on any more (5% code from Empire Direct and memory upgrade from Laptops Direct). With the £50 it's still an excellent spec machine for the money, though with the cost of the RAM upgrade to 2Gb it's getting near the same price as this Dell, which is very much flavour of the month for £387:

What's worse is that the Bargain Crazy deal jumped up then got sold off.

The crazy Toshiba A100 with the huge screen, similar spec, same processor at one stage was £295 delivered (last week - don't believe the hype that said it sold out early october, they just turned up!). I know, I have one here. With the Crucial memory 2gb kit (which was £32.99 - now £37.99) plus 3% cashback, was a veritable bargain (even to you doubters who said you could get a Dell equivalent)
The smaller the monkey the more it looks like it would kill you at the first given opportunity.
