Article in You Magazine

My in-laws read the Daily Mail and in the You magazine there is a a piece about Katie Edwards and her journey to BR.

Some of you may remember that she posted on here a while back and I think she is a member of the Bankruptcy Supporters Forum.

The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter :(

Just noticed the online version doesn't have the end piece which basically says

1st quarter 07 more than 30.000 people declared BR or took out an IVA. 24% increase on last year.

BR is a way of dealing with debts you can't pay. Any assets you have may be used to pay off your debts. After 1 year (in most cases) all outstanding debts are wriiten off. However even after this you could find it difficult to get credit. A BR order will be registered against your name for 6 years, and even after that time creditors may still ask if you have ever been BR.

An IVA is seen as a way of avoiding BR, but it can leave youwith high monthly repayments. The lender agrees to write off a proportion of a persons debt for a fee of around £7,500. However, IVA's can make it difficult to borrow money in the future. Call the National Debtline on 0808 808 4000 fo further advice.

An excellent article - could have been me, but for the fact that I am male.

  • A very good article - I could identify with so much she said. Katie says that she has to wait 3 days for a top-up done at the post office to appear on her cashplus Mastercard. You can now use a debit card to top-up online, & the money's in your account within about 30 minutes - the limit is £150 a time, & you can do that twice a month free of charge. They will take Visa Electron cards. :)

I just wish they could spell BANKRUPTCY - The on-line article spells it as BANKCRUPTCY - I hope that is not how it appeared in the magazine.
