CV 'review' companies

Hello,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this. If it isn't, perhaps someone could recommend a suitable forum?
I'm really struggling to get any interviews. A lot of companies are offering a free CV 'review', which, in my experience, just involves someone talking very quickly to me, telling me how crap my CV is, then offering to re-write it for £XXX.
Recruitment consultants have told me not to waste my money. But I can't help thinking it might be a useful service. Has anyone had any experience with these companies before?

As a recruitment consultant... it's a waste of money.
PM me if you'd like me to take an outsiders view on it0 -

When I was made redundant some years ago, the company arranged support including professionally written CVs for all the leavers. I received a number of e-mails from companies offering 'free' services, so thought I'd sent it off purely out of curiosity. As the OP says, they tore it apart and offered to rewrite it - for a fee of course. 'Nuf said?0

I would look online, I've been on other forums in the past where people have volunteered to look at CVs (I can't remember the name!) and give free advice so maybe that's an avenue to follow?Swagbuckling since Aug 2016 - Earnings so far.. £55.0
