Missed Occupational Health App

Hi,

I've been signed off work for around 6 weeks now due to an operation and I've been signed off as unfit for work until early September.

I was due to have an occupational health appointment with work last Wednesday but got my dates mixed up and turned up on the Friday instead. Luckily, despite turning up on the wrong day the physio had a cancellation and was able to assess me and confirm I'm not fit for work as of yet.

When speaking to the nurse there, she said because I hadn't turned up to the original appointment my boss would have been made aware of this. The nurse and physio said however that because I did come to see them eventually that there shouldn't be a problem as they'd now send an email with the assessment results and that I'd now done one.

I got my pay this week and it was down around 2-3 days pay. I'm assuming it's been stopped until I came in and seen the physio.

I will get in touch with them on Monday, but I'm just wondering will I be entitled to the missing pay back, as I was declared not fit for work a couple of days later, whilst also being signed off till Sept.

Also more concerning is that on my letter it says missed appointments could lead to possible disciplinary action. Does anyone have any idea of how likely it is that this will be the case? Thanks

Do you have a continuous line of fit note cover, or is there a gap?

If one fit note ended before another began, then reducing your pay is not unreasonable. A 'good' employer MIGHT reinstate the missing pay at a later date, but going by the book they are not required to do so. If you have extenuating circumstances, by all means share them with the employer, but "I didn't think it would matter if I didn't renew my fit note because I knew I was seeing Occ Health of Friday and they confirmed I wasn't fit for work so then I made an appointment with my GP" won't wash.

If you already had a fit note covering you until September then your pay shouldn't have been affected. HOWEVER, have you now exhausted your entitlement to full Company Sick Pay?

Nope, because no-one knows who your employer is (and it would be wise not to tell us), what their disciplinary process looks like, and how consistently they act on this kind of thing.

  • Hi Sue thanks for the reply.

I have had continuous fit notes the whole time and have had no gaps. My manger would have been made aware of this.

I think the sick pay might have been suspended due to non attendance of the original OH appointment.

I'm hoping with it being a genuine mistake on my part mixing up the dates, and that I did actually come in, albeit a couple of days late, there will be no action as the company's physio has now seen me and declared me not fit for work.
