Hi, can anyone help with Wheat Germ & Molasses, i've looked in my local shops but are unable to find these for my cooking. Are they American terms? All help will be gratefully received.

    Molasses

Many people are confused by the difference between molasses and treacle. For all intents and purposes, they are the same.

Yes, wheatgerm is easily available in supermarkets or a health food store. I believe molasses is less strong in flavour than black treacle. What I would do is use half golden syrup and half black treacle -unless you can find it in a health foos store as Irisheyes suggests ;)

Thanks everyone, i'll take another look tomorrow.
  • I really dont like black treacle it has a bitter quality, and if my memory serves me right it is a by product of sugar production. Molasses is much gentler product, and you can even buy molasses sugar, which takes a bit like licorice. You can buy molasses for 89p in Tesco I think its in the organic section
