When I started my current job, they told me I had got the job but then left me hanging for weeks on end waiting for a start date. They eventually rang me with a date that meant I was only able to give my last employer a month's notice if I typed up my letter of resignation at work and handed it in straight away (which I did).
They expected me to do this in good faith with nothing in writing - despite badgering them for the entire month I was serving my notice, I never did get anything to confirm my appointment. And it was a couple of weeks after I started that I saw a contract - even then there was a gap where the annual salary should have been. I considered writing 'a million quid' in the space and sending it back!0 -

Sometimes new jobs can take a while to get signed off. I once went for a job then the company decided after a few weeks they didn't want to create the role! On the other hand it could just be the decision maker is on leave or something.0
