I can't see any reason not to do a DRO. You have nearly 10k of qualifying debt, less than £50 per month surplus income and the only asset is a £500 car.

The fee is £90, payable in instalments. You could stop paying water and put that in as a debt.

You will need to find an Intermediary. Stepchange and Citizens Advice do most of these.

You should be aware that present year council tax can only be included if you have lost the right to pay in instalments. It is different from bankruptcy in this regard.

Come back wth any more questions you have.

You will also need a bank account not connected to that credit card.

Also, if that HB overpayment is fraudulent it can still be chased at the end of the 12-month frozen period.

I think there is a bit of a delay processing DRO applications right now.

Fatbelly can tell you more on this.

Going by that budget though you would qualify, i cant see a reason not to do it.

Sooner you do it, sooner you'll get piece of mind.

I think we've had posters on here saying there's a couple of months queue at stepchange.

Each Citizens Advice office will be different. If they have intermediaries who do their own applications then you'll just have to ask.

If they refer to the MAS unit, which should be OK for simple cases, then I believe they also have a couple of months waiting time at the moment as they recruit new staff.
