Very basic shape teddy pattern anyone?

I was in Bristol the other day and saw some basic teds/rabbits/monkeys that had been done from two pieces of cloth sewn together then straight stitch for the eyes and mouth. They were stuffed and quite cute made from some sort of felt or soft wool fabric.

There were some weirder ones on a different stall that did not even have matching length legs and arms.

The amazing thing is that they were selling between £8 - £12.

Does anyone think that I would be breaking any rules if I made these crude teddies myself for part of Christmas hampers for my family?

My son had what I called a 'flat teddy' when he was little, went everywhere with him, also had sewn in eyes and mouth so no risk of eating bits of it, passed it onto his brother who eventually parted with it when he was 6 and gave it to the puppy who now carries it everywhere, she's 1 now.

That is exactly the right shape.

The ones I saw were a bit more off the wall if you know what I mean but this is just the type of thing I was thinking about. I got some dark brown velour curtains at the car boot today and I am going to have a go at making the prototype from these. A bit scary the last sewing I did was in school. I cross stitch and knit but real sewing!!!
