Hi,

I have recently changed jobs and have been quite significantly overpaid on my final pay. Obviously I need to arrange to pay this back but my question is if I just pay it back directly to the company how will hmrc know?
Obviously I have paid tax on this amount and I don't want it to affect my tax credits.
Thanks ☺

You're sure it's not holiday pay?

Yes definitely not holiday pay. I had worked there for a while through an agency and this was my first month actually employed by the company. All previous holiday accrued was paid by the agency on my last pay with them.

I see, I'd suggest you take a percentage of the pay (work out exactly what you owe back) and put it aside, they will eventually contact you for it.

They should provide an updated p45 in theory
