Commuting from Leicestershire to London - right forum?

Hi all,

Unsure if this is the right forum for this kind of post.....

I've been living in central London for over 6 years now and weighing up my future; move closer to home (in Leicestershire), look to buy in London (for an investment) or even take a break and travel.

My question is, if I were to move back to Leicestershire and remain in my job (based in Canary Wharf), what are the economics that I should consider/anyone can offer tips on?
I may look to work 2 or 3 days at home, so is it worth getting a train season ticket? Is it worth looking to stay down in London over night each week?

That would be an expensive commute - £9,000 for an annual season ticket to London St Pancras - or £9,808 if you want to include the tube.

You may find this season ticket calculator tool helpful: http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/seasonticket/search to compare the cost of season tickets to buying daily tickets and see what works out best for you.

Obviously traveling off peak would reduce the cost - cheap advance tickets may be available for off peak trains. I don't know if this is an option for you.

For more specialist advice you can ask on https://www.railforums.co.uk - there are some very knowledgable people on there who may be able to help reduce the cost.

I think you'd normally need to be travelling at least 4 days a week for a season ticket to make economic sense.

And look at options from Rugby.
Cheaper than Leicester.
