6 year statute barring ?

Hi All. Just need some advise re 6 year statute barring . I recently received a letter from a debt collection firm saying I owe on a debt. I have paid or am in the process of paying all my debts and I don't recognize this one. Would it be best to ignore the letter, if the debt is less than 6 years old & I reply that would be the same as saying I am responsible for it & they would start chasing me?
So should I just ignore it or not?

Either ignore, but they might not go away, or send a prove it letter https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2607247. This will not mean you acknowledge the debt.0

OK thanks, my credit file is clean, no mention of it and there are no dates in the letter, that is why I am a bit hesitant to reply to them in case it turns out it is something I owe from less than 6 years ago. I will wait to see if they send another letter.0

The provit letter is carefully worded so as not to acknowledge any debt they are writing to you about.
That's why we always suggest that as a first step.
