40th Wedding Anniv - open house party?

Options
Hi - our Anniversary is coming up in December - not a good time to plan things as everyone and their kids so busy with Christmas plans etc.

Did not want it to pass unmarked but as hubby not often too well (nor me for that matter) I was thinking of maybe just doing an open house afternoon and early evening - for friends or relatives to pop in for a chat and some cake maybe?

Not fishing for gifts or anything so would be quite happy to say 'no gifts' when we asked people - but unsure of timings - maybe 2-8 and pop in when you could type thing? And would a large special cake and tea be acceptable - I know someone who did similar for their 60th.

Anyhow your comments appreciated.

Its on the 8th but thought of maybe doing it earlier on the Sun 5th - and having all the Xmas decs up nice and early - I like decorating all the rooms anyway.

  • Personally, I think anniversaries are only of importance to the couple involved. Rather than have an open house, I would go away with my Husband for a nice weekend.

Thanks for replying Aunty Dotty - yes I can see your viewpoint.

Neither of us too well so we are home together all the time anyway and not really up to going anywhere much - otherwise a trip or holiday would have been good.

We did this for the first birthday of D.D.and D.S. They were too young for a party but we still wanted to celebrate.
Keep the invite window to four hours 2-6 worked for us. That way you are more likely to get an overlap of guests .
Doing these times means you don't have to provide dinner as they have had it or provide teas as they will be having it later. Cake in the afternoon is always appreciated.
    Congratulations to you both.

I would much prefer this as a guest than an evening do. Sounds perfect to me!

I don't know if you are drinkers or not, but a couple of bottles of prosecco to open up and pop makes it a celebration!

But if you are not into that, well that's ok too.

TBH I would have a few savouries. Not everyone loves cake! But that's just me. There are lots of party nibbles around at that time too Yum.

Whatever you do, have a lovely time. And congratulations.
