Lamb for kebabs

I'm on WW.
I've started making HM chicken shish kebabs. They are nice.
I fancied a change, lamb.
In Asda yesterday, cubed lamb, 2 small (tiny) packs on special offer for £7. It was barely enough for 3 of us (3 of us all on WW I mean). I bought chicken breasts as usual, as I felt £7 for such a tiny amount of meat was too much.
Now, kebab shops can't be buying it at this price. I didn't think it right to get lamb thats for roasting as this would be tough as old boots on the Georgie Foreman?
So what lamb do kebab shops use does anyone know?

The lean cubes of lamb fillet, shish.
I never get doner, too fattening anyway, even if I did like it:o0 -
Have you thought of using mutton? Much cheaper. Butchers near ours sells half a sheep for £25Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Hubby wouldn't eat mutton (& I don't think I would either). Its chewy.
Does anyone know what cut the kebabs shops use?0 -
Don't let bad mutton experiences put you off. It's really tasty, cheap and currently rather trendy!

Sorry, Kimevans - didn't read your post properly! Just saw the word "kebab" and was off in a world of my own...
I agree with the other posters re mutton though - give it a go again - tell hubby (if he asks), it's specially-fed lamb. (True!)
I'd still like to know if the lamb used in chip shop Doner meat is available in family sized portions to spit roast?0 -
A friend of mine owns a kebab shop, I'll ask her next time I see her.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0

Mutton is not chewy, especially if you marinate it. The tenderest bit I have had is some mutton rump.
Only a matter of time before a lamb becomes a sheep LOL;)
As for the big doner kebabs is you want to eat that sort of thing (MRM meat...) the best place to get it is .. a kebab shop!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Go to an asian butchers shop! As they mainly sell lamb and chicken the prices are brilliant - assume they pass on the savings from bulk buying. My local one sells lamb at £3.50 a pound and it's leg, cubed and trimmed of all the fat! If I want to make shami kebab or similar I nip into the shop next door for garlic etc and he minces it all in together for me - the man's a star! :beer:0

Nothing like that near me.
I gotta say, the £7 portion would have made 3 small or 2 large kebabs, i was shocked. But then it was lamb fillet & lamb is pricy. That was the special offer price!!!!!!!!0
