Hi,
I am currently in a job I hate, but have been here 11 years so have some security.
I am currently working in finance, but have just seen a job in a completely different sector, which I would love, however it is only a six month contract with the possibility of extending for another six months.
I am a very risk averse person and this puts me out of my comfort zone, but this job is my ideal job and could be a stepping stone into my dream career after the FTC ends, but I am worried about being unemployed if I can't find a job afterwards.
Any advice welcome, thank you.

It's a decision only you can make. You say nothing about your personal circumstances e.g. Married/single, mortgage.
I do know one person who was in a similar situation to yourself. They decided to make the jump and has absolutely no regrets. They earn less than they did before, but can manage and love what they're doing.0 -
Thank you,
I will apply for it, it is about 10% less than what I am on now, but am ok with that.
Thank you0 -
Hi,

Based on your key points, it's probably best you don't.
You may feel empowered making the change but what if the contract is not continued beyond the six months?0 -
How often do these type jobs come up in your area? If after 6 or 12 months are you likely to find something similar quite quickly? Is it fairly easy to get back into something along the lines of what you are currently doing? How long can you afford to be unemployed for in 6-12 months time?
If you get to interview stage do ask them if the job will go past the 12 month deadline, it could well be that they use that time period to evaluate you with the possibility of a permanent contract.Norn Iron Club member No 3530
