Negotiating Student Fees

Apologies if this isn't correct forum for student fees questions.

Reading this article - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-40952125 it says it is a buyers market for students.

With that in mind has anyone / is it worth trying to negotiate student fees?

My daughter starts a foundation degree in September, the fees are only about £7.5k but we get the impression they really want her there (she has been accepted already).

She received a Distinction in her Level3 course, was going elsewhere but that cause was cancelled due to lack of numbers.

Is it worth contacting them and saying she will go if they reduce her fees or does that sort of thing never happen?

Very much doubt you can negotiate fees as they are set.

Although it's stated as being a buyer's market, if the number of places available is reducing because of course closures it's not as clear cut as it might seem. All you can really do is look around to see if other establishments are doing the same course for a lower fee.

    Thanks all,

I doubt she would forgive me for embarrassing her if came on with the old Arthur Daley and tried to get them to reduce the fees :-)

Just wondering whether anyone did this or not really.

I think the article means it's a buyers' market in terms of which institute one can choose to go to, not the fees you pay when you're there.

Furthermore, I would really doubt the quality of any so-called 'university' which was so desperate for students that they were willing to negotiate on fees...!

They want your daughter there for the fees, nothing else.
