Is it really necessary to change a bed after only 7 years? I thought a mattress should last around 10 years.

I really must get saving for a new one myself then. So will watch out this thread for good advice.

i think the advise you got was right, i had a myres bed the only reason i got rid was i wanted a kingsize
i bought a silentnight mum and dad did this for years, mind you just the budget one and straight away i knew the quailty had gone
after 2 years its gone a bit bumpy in parts me and my partner are both over weight so i blamed this a bit but my sister has one too and shes a light weight some small wire filling was pokeing through her matress

I dont think the quailty is there anymore

dont touch silentnight with a bargepole.
we bought one mattress, that after 6 months had a piece of metal sticking through it, admittedly silentnight replaced it, now this ones got metal sticking through it as well.

    and its gone all lumpy

    utter rubbish

As many people on here know I actually sell beds, and one thing I do make a point of is listening to my customers. I've lost count of the number of customers who have told me that they would never buy Silentnight again. The main problem seems to be springs poking through (as mentioned in a few posts above), and the general view seems to be that the average life of their mattresses seems to be around 2 years.

I'd like to point out that I am an independent seller, and can sell any brand I wish to, but I would never sell Silentnight because we give a satisfaction guarantee, and it would cost us a fortune.

I noticed that only aimee21j had anything good to say about them, but the mattress in question has a layer of memory foam on top of the springs, so if the springs did start to poke through then you might not notice it for quite a while. If the mattress is still under guarantee then I suggest that you have a very good feel all over the mattress to see if you can feel anything through the memory foam.
