There is a logic to her preferring to work evenings. She will still be available if there is a problem with the child, whereas if working during the playschool times one of you would need to take time off if the child was sick.

Just a point, OP - you're saying you "need" this sorted in two weeks - but you don't. She doesn't have a job, yet. It's one thing asking for different hours - if you get it, you can't insist they change it all in two weeks to suit you! These things require planning!!

There's no point asking the impossible - and I fear that if you ask to change your hours then ask for it to all change ASAP they might think you're taking the pee a little. Just ask for the change in hours / role (showing them the benefit of it, not focusing on you) and wait to see if they say yes. If they do, wait to see what the timescale is. Then your partner will have to get a job based on that timescale.

Just because your son is going to nursery in two weeks it doesn't mean you have to be job-ready in two weeks. Your partner will have to find a job alongside any changes to your role.

' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".
